Ford says "no issues" with its accelerators

Ford Motor Co vehicles have no issues like those involved in the safety recall of Toyota Motor Corp vehicles, Ford global product development chief Derrick Kuzak said on Wednesday.

Kuzak said Ford conducts a full review of its cars and trucks whenever there is a major problem within the auto industry to see whether there are any related concerns.

"We have completed that review now for all of our vehicles globally relative to the Toyota concern and we don't have any issues with our vehicles," Kuzak said.

Toyota on January 21 said it would recall 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. over potentially faulty accelerator pedals supplied by CTS Corp, which also supplies an accelerator for one version of the Ford Transit Classic built in China.

Ford and its joint venture partner in China, Jiangling Motors Co, halted production of the diesel version of the Transit Classic commercial vans for three days last week to check the performance of the accelerators supplied by CTS.

Elkhart, Indiana-based CTS had supplied the pedals to the diesel Transit Classic at the joint venture only since December with a different design than for Toyota. Fewer than 2,000 vans had been produced with CTS-supplied pedals at the time of the temporary production halt.

CTS has said the accelerator pedal supplied to Toyota met the Japanese automaker's specifications.
