Hyundai's YF Sonata named Top Safety Pick in U.S.

South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. on Friday said its Sonata YF model has been selected as the "Top Safety Pick for 2010" by the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The selection process included front and side crash tests, a rollover test, and protection against neck injuries, as well as analysis and evaluation based on case studies going as far back as 30 years, the company added.

IIHS, first established in 1959, is an independent, non-profit, research firm funded by more than 80 auto insurers, and rates how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash every year, it added.
