China-made VW Passat CC car set for launch in June
Shanghai, February 25 (Gasgoo.com) Volkswagen's China venture FAW-VW is expected to launch the Chinese made VW Passat CC to the local market in June 2010, China Car Times said yesterday.
Earlier reports said the Passat CC might have its name only known as CC or Magotan CC to Chinese buyers and would be equipped with the locally built 1.8TSI or 2.0TSI engine shared by the regular Magotan sedan line-up of FAW-VW, who uses the Magotan to avoid name overlap with Shanghai-VW's Passat products.
FAW-VW, the chief manufacturer of VW's CC series, also makes the latest European Passat known as Magotan in China, while VW's another Chinese venture Shanghai-VW produces updated versions of the last generation Passat under the Passat brand name.
Retail price of the Chinese made Passat CC, which is estimated at 250,000 yuan ($36,600), may be announced at the 2010 Beijing auto show where VW will likely display this locally built car among others.
The imported Passat CC is currently sold in China for over 500,000 yuan with a 3.6l AWD setup, and the upcoming Chinese built one is likely to be FWD and with only the 4 cylinder engines available.
