Changan to produce own-brand concept cars in Beijing

Shanghai, July 21 (Gasgoo.com) Earlier this month, Changan Auto expanded the annual capacity of its Beijing base to 500,000 units, aiming to produce its self-developed mid- to high-end models and put them on the domestic market in 2012, media reported today.

The new facility in Beijing, with an initial capacity of 250,000 units, will produce Changan C201 Mermaid Concept and Changan CD101 Concept cars that are still under development at present. Other mid- to high-end models will also be made here.

Meanwhile, the company's existing Beijing facility, with also an annual capacity of 250,000 units, will manufacture special vehicles, Changan sedans and some new models.

Changan Auto's sales in the first half of this year grew 47.68% to 974,499 vehicles. After acquiring Hafei Auto and Changhe Auto, Changan now has 21 auto plants across the country. On July 9, it signed a joint venture deal with PSA Peugeot-Citroen.
