China becoming BMW's largest market: CEO
Shanghai August 6 (Gasgoo.com) Christoph Stark, CEO and President of BMW China revealed to the media that given the development speed and the enforcement of stimulating policies in the Chinese market, China is to become BMW's largest market sooner or later.
In the first half of this year, BMW doubled its sales to 75,615 units in mainland China, of which core brands of BMW sold 71,146 units and Mini brand sold 4,469 units, up 98% and 153% respectively from a year earlier. If this development pace continues, BMW will greatly exceed its annual sales target of 120,000 units.
Though BMW doesn't adjust its annual sales target in the second half of this year, Christoph said, the company's sales will have an excellent performance in the end of this year.
For the time being, China is BMW's third largest market, following Germany and America.
Christoph said Chinese market has maintained a fast development and there is a great possibility that it will become BMW's largest market. BMW isn't sure about the time, but it is willing to be part of this.
Christoph added that sales of Mini models surpassed the last four or five year's sales, if the Chinese economy can have a steady growth, that day is sure to come. With the development of BMW's business in China, it will also spread its business to the second- and third-tier cities in the country.
