China's imported car sales soar 117% in H1

Shanghai August 13 (Gasgoo.com) Car sales growth in the world's biggest market has been declining since March, while in the first half of this year, China saw a hike in imported car sales, media reported Friday.

Imported car sales amounted to 388,200, units in the first six months, up 117% from a year earlier. The monthly sales have exceeded 64,700 units in the same period during which the sales volume of imported cars in March hit a record 85,400 units, according to statistics released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

In addition, the data show that during the first half China's import and export value on vehicles stood at $50.7 billion, posting an increase of 83.82% from 2009, of which the imports jumped 113% to $27.3 billion and the exports grew 50.24% to $23.4 billion.

China's domestically-made passenger car sales rose 42.82% in the first seven months this year, headed by the SUV sales that had a year-on-year growth of 100%. Meanwhile, China exported 288,900 vehicles, up 75.33% over the same period last year.

China's automotive trade deficit in the first six months of this year reached $3.8 billion, CAAM analysts said recently.
