Mazda recalling 10,691 vehicles in China
Shanghai August 16 (Gasgoo.com) FAW Mazda Motor Sales Co. is recalling 10,691 imported Mazda vehicles in China to fix a power-steering system problem, China's quality inspection authorities said on Friday.
The recall, which has started on August 13, affects 3,405 Mazda3 and 7,286 Mazda5 models produced between April 1, 2007 and November 30, 2008, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) said in a statement.
Bad manufacturing process may cause the high pressure pipe to go rusty, increasing sliding resistance of the power steering pump, thus overloading the motor, which may result in the instrument failure warning light to illuminate and the power steering pump to stop working. Without the power assist, control of the steering system will get stronger at low speed, affecting driving safety.
FAW-Mazda said it would clean the oil passage and replace the steering pump repair kits and the high-pressure pipe for the models involved.
Mazda's Chinese joint venture has not yet received any reports of vehicle accident or personal injury arising form the above problem from involved car owners.
Owners can contact FAW-Mazda customer service at 0431-85991000 or 400-666-8080 for more information.
