GM gets another former Hyundai marketing exec
General Motors Co GM.UL continued to shake up its marketing team, naming on Thursday Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS) executive Chris Perry as vice president for Chevrolet marketing, GM said.
Perry, 50, follows former Hyundai colleague Joel Ewanick to GM, who took over GM's U.S. marketing reins in May.
Perry replaces Jim Campbell, 46, who will remain at GM as vice present for GM performance vehicles and motor sports.
Ewanick is widely credited with some of the marketing strategies that helped South Korean automaker Hyundai increase 2009 sales while overall U.S. vehicle sales declined.
Two weeks after joining GM, Ewanick switched Chevy's advertising account to Omnicom Group's (OMC.N) Goody, Silverstein and Partners.
Campbell-Ewald lost the Chevy account in April after 91 years. The agency created many memorable Chevrolet ads at a time when GM was dominant in the U.S. market, including the "Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet" ads of the 1970s and "See the USA in your Chevrolet".
The Chevy account was moved to the U.S. offices of Publicis Groupe SA (PUBP.PA), and in May, to Goody, Silverstein and Partners.
The Chevrolet Motor Co was formed in 1911. Chevy accounts for about 70 percent of GM's U.S. sales.
Hyundai has not named a replacement for Perry, who resigned from on Thursday, Hyundai spokesman Chris Hosford said.
Perry worked for Hyundai for the past decade and replaced Ewanick at Hyundai.
