Shanghai September 3 (Gasgoo.com) Japanese automaker Mazda Motor sold 19,578 vehicles in China in August, up 36% from a year earlier, shattering all of its August records in the Chinese market, which also marks its 23rd consecutive monthly growth, 163.com reported Friday, citing a company filing.
In the January-August period, Mazda China reported sales of 143,950 units, up 35% year on year, completing more than 65% of its full-year sales target. Mazda China believes it can accomplish the planned sales target of 220,000 units this year given the current sales momentum.
FAW Mazda, a joint venture between FAW Group and Mazda Motor, boosted its sales to 14,190 units in August, an increase of 66% form a year earlier, which is attributable to strong sales of Mazda 6 Ruiyi.
However, Changan Mazda, a joint venture between Chongqing Changan Automobile Co and Mazda Motor, saw its sales drop 8% year on year to 5,388 units in the month.
FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda have already opened 282 dealerships in China and will add 18 by the end of the year, when Mazda8 will be also imported to enrich the product line-up of Mazda.
