BMW plans to launch more SUVs in western China
Shanghai September 19 (Gasgoo.com) In order to enhance its presence on the Chinese market, BMW is planning to launch more SUVs in western China where it opened its fourth regional distribution center in the country in June this year, pcauto.com reported Sunday.
The German automaker displayed its new long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series sedan and the special "BMW M3 25th Anniversary Tiger Edition" at the ongoing Chengdu Auto Show. Zhan Fei, western region head of sales at BMW Brilliance Automotive, said at the event that BMW is planning to expand the range of its SUV products offered in China and is currently engaged in expansion of its sales network in the second- and third-tier cities, including Tibet, Xinjiang, etc..
BMW China saw its sales grow largely in the southwestern market in recent years, Xu Zhijun, President of BMW China Automotive Trading Ltd., said at the event, adding that the market has substantial growth potential in the future, which should not be overlooked.
In January-August 2010, BMW China broke through, for the first time, the 100,000 unit sales barrier. BMW plans to sell 120,000 vehicles in China this year. By the end of August, it already sold 100, 008 units, a year-on-year increase of 92.9%, of which, the Mini brand sold 6,439 units, up 164.9% from a year earlier.
