Changan Auto plans to launch 16 self-made sedans in five years

Shanghai September 21 (Gasgoo.com) Changan Auto Co., Ltd., Ford's Chinese partner, is considering launching 16 self-developed sedans in the next five years, as well as own brand high-end sedans when the time is right, relevant person in charge at the company said recently, The Beijing News reported Wednesday.

Changan has built many R&D centers in China, with four proprietary platforms. The company will achieve localization of its own brand high-end sedans in Beijing, an insider said.

The Chongqing-based automaker signed an agreement with the Beijing government on construction of a vehicle production base at the end of June 2010. The Changan C201 and CD101 model, currently under development, will be put into production in the base and go on sale around 2012.

Changan Auto reported sales of 114,297 vehicles in August, a year-on-year increase of 10.09%. In the first eight month of this year, the company saw its sales rise 36.33% from a year earlier to 1.19 million vehicles.
