Brilliance to launch first self-made SUV next year

From China Car Times| September 23 , 2010 09:50 BJT

Brilliance Automotive, the Chinese JV partner to BMW in China, is planning to launch its own SUV in 2011 according to media reports. The SUV is expected to be priced between 100,000rmb and 150,000rmb when launched. Brilliance have so far branched out into niche markets such as wagons and coupes where other Chinese car manufacturers have not dared to tread which has not fared so well for Brilliance with sales in the low hundreds for their coupe in 2010, and wagon sales being virtually flat.

The SUV market is one that has exploded in recent years and has improved the fortunes of several car companies in China, any addition from Brilliance is likely to assist them in garnering market share.

Brilliance are expected to put the BMW X1 SUV and also 1-series hatchback into production early next year in partnership with Brilliance Automotive.
