Shanghai September 26 (Gasgoo.com) Shane Tedjarati, President and CEO of Honeywell China and India, said yesterday its first cooperation with Changan Auto has progressed remarkably - a microturbo engine has been successfully developed, Chongqing Daily reported Sunday.

Honeywell and Changan signed an agreement to jointly develop technologies for turbochargers used in small-displacement cars in 2008, according to an earlier report from Xinhua.

Following the agreement, technicians from both companies will take advantage of Honeywell's turbo technologies and Changan's strength in R&D of engines to develop micro turbo technologies that can meet the needs of the small car segment in emerging markets.

After just two or three years, Changan has already produced the 0.8L and 1.0L turbocharged gasoline engines. With the new turbocharger technology, these engines can reduce fuel consumption 15% and boost output by more than 30%, Shane Tedjarati said.

Honeywell has started to adjust its development strategy towards China's southwestern city of Chongqing where it will build a manufacturing base. Moreover, Honeywell will expand its cooperation with Changan, Chongqing Silian and other enterprises in the municipality, Shane Tedjarati added.
