Volvo to recall nearly 10,000 vehicles for frontal airbag concerns

From Global Times| October 21 , 2010 09:48 BJT

Volvo will recall 9,746 vehicles to fix the driver's side front airbag, which may not deploy during a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Wednesday.

There may be an intermittent fault in the driver's airbag clockspring wiring connector for the supplemental restraint system, which may prevent the airbag from properly protecting the driver during the crash and increase the risk of injuries, according to NHTSA. The models involved include 2010 and 2011 S80, XC70, 2010 V70, along with 2011 XC 60.

Dealers will install a metal shim in the driver's air bag clockspring wiring connector free of charge, and the safety recall, which may affect 9,746 vehicles, will begin on or before Oct. 29, 2010.
