New Audi A6 to be built in China in 2012
Shanghai November 17 (Gasgoo.com) The 2012 Audi A6 has undergone a big change underneath, moving from the Volkswagen Group's C platform to Audi's own modular aluminum chassis, and is expected to be produced at FAW-Volkswagen in 2012 after being stretched, Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday.
The new Audi A6 is more aesthetic and sporty as to design, compared to the existing version, and scheduled to make its debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show this month.
The latest spy photos show that the rear end of the new A6 mimics the styling of the already revealed A7, another midsize four-door that will slot just above the A6 in the lineup.
The big-mouth-grille design will remain on the new A6 whose headlights now become more young and fashionable. The overall edges have been softened a bit and the greenhouse has been drawn back a little judging from the spy pictures.
As for the power system, the 2012 Audi A6 is expected to carry a 2.8L V6 twin turbo and a 4.8L V8 gasoline engine. The diesel version may feature the 2.7L V6 TDI and 3.0L TDI engines. The new A6 entry-level car will employ the 2.0L/200 hp TFSI engine and the supercharged 3.0L V6 engine.
On top of that, the new generation A6 will be equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.0L TFSI version will be mated to a 7-speeed dual-clutch transmission.
