Chery EV to debut 2010 Bologna Auto Show

BOLOGNA, Italy — DR Automobili, the Italian importer of China-built Chery cars, is displaying a battery-powered version of the DR1 minicompact at the 2010 Bologna Auto Show, essentially a version of Chery's Riich M1 EV that debuted at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show and is just being released in the China market.
In China, the Riich M1 EV will be priced from around $22,500. It features a 40-kW electric motor and a lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack. Range is 100 miles, and top speed is 75 mph. A full charge takes 6-8 hours at 220 volts.
The Italian importer first showed the standard gasoline-powered DR1 at the 2008 Bologna Auto Show. So far, there is no official word on when the DR1 EV will reach the market in Europe.
DR Automobili also is displaying the DR3, a larger four-door hatchback based on the Chery Fulwin 2.
Powered by a 108-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, the DR3 will go on sale next June in Europe.
In China, the Fulwin 2 hatchback is priced from around $7,800.
