Skoda Yeti SUV to be produced in China from 2013, Shanghai VW says
Shanghai December 16 (Gasgoo.com) As Skoda's first SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) model, the Yeti will be locally produced at Shanghai Volkswagen, the German automaker's Chinese joint venture with SAIC Group, in 2013, the Beijing Times reported Thursday, citing a company announcement.
Shanghai Volkswagen General Manager Zhang Hailiang, Skoda China President Alfred Rieck, and Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, chairman of the Board of Skoda Auto, attended the signing ceremony of the licence production contract in Shanghai Friday, the Times said.
The Yeti compact SUV is the fourth strategic vehicle model Skoda has introduced to the Chinese market; and it will further extend Skoda's product portfolio and better meet consumers' personalized demands.
The Skoda Yeti will go on sale in China with its original design next year. The car's overseas version carries a 1.2TSI and a 1.8TSI gas engine, which will be available in the domestic market as well, along with a 1.4 TSI version, according to an early report from Gasgoo.com.
