Changan Ford Mazda begins construction on new Chongqing transmission factory
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 27) - Changan Ford Mazda has officially begun construction on its new transmission system factory in Chongqing, cqnews.net reported. The factory, which will cost $350 million, is the first of its kind for Ford and Mazda in China.
Production is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2013 and will boast an annual production capability of up to 40,000 units. The factory will make use of state-of-the-art technology and will service the joint venture's vehicle production site in the same city, which will begin production in 2012.
Meanwhile, construction work is continuing on Changan Ford Mazda's new $500 million engine factory, also located in Chongqing. With completion of the three sites, Chongqing will become Ford's largest production center outside of the US.
