Ford planning to bring over three SUV models to China by end of 2012
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 2) - Ford will be bringing over three new SUVs to China within the year, autohome.com.cn reported today, citing a statements made by Changan Ford Deputy CEO Liu Zongxin. Mr. Liu made the statements at an event held for the Kuga SUV's upcoming Chinese launch. In addition to the Kuga, Ford will bring over the EcoSport, which will be domestically produced, and the Explorer.
According to Mr. Liu, Changan Ford has previously promised Chinese consumers that it will make the entire Ford SUV lineup available in the country. The joint venture has already begun selling the Ford Edge as an imported model.
Although it's still not available on the Chinese market, the Ford Kuga (pictured) is garnering its fair share of attention in the country. However, there are those who are worried that the Kuga's price may be raised when it makes its Chinese market debut. Although Mr. Liu refused to give a definitive answer on the issue, he did point out that vehicles in the Chinese market is susceptible to price rises. The Kuga will reportedly be manufactured at the JV's second production site in Chongqing.
Mr. Liu added that Changan Ford is planning to add another 50 dealerships to its sales network this year, at which time it will possess a total of 480 4S dealerships in the country.
