Shanghai announces new policies targeting EV charging post development
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 26) - The Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission and the Shanghai Urban Construction and Communications Committee, in association with five other departments, has announced new legislation to encourage the installation of battery charging posts for electric vehicles, the China Business News reported today.
According to the legislation, a new company exclusively focused on the construction of EV charging posts will be established with the aim of encouraging development of the EV industry. The company will be eligible for government support for up to 30 percent of its operations. As for fees, rates for the company's charging posts will be priced according to the city's average residential electricity prices. However, during the company's testing period, which will last until the end of 2014, the posts will be free to use. Charging posts will be installed, among other places, near parking spaces inside residential complexes, where they will be looked after by said complexes' maintenance departments. Individual EV owners will also be eligible to build their own personal charging posts following approval by the city's government.
