Ford's Chinese sales increase 45% in May

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 6) - Ford sold a total of 70,540 vehicles in China in May, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. The figure represents sales growth of 45 percent from last May. The manufacturer's cumulative sales for January to May totaled 332,467 vehicles, up a full 48 percent from the first five months of last year.

Ford's SUV models performed exceptionally well, contributing strongly to the manufacturer's sales performance last month. The EcoSport urban SUV (pictured above) brought in 6,231 new orders over the course of the month. A total of 13,815 EcoSports have been sold in the SUV's two months on the market. The Kuga (pictured below) also posted respectable sales results, with 7,892 units sold last month. 28,164 Kugas have been sold in China to date. The New Focus was still a very popular buy last month, with its May sales totaling 27,345 units and sales for the first five months of the year totaling 155,000 units.

Changan Ford, which sells Ford passenger automobiles, sold 51,099 vehicles in May and 231,818 vehicles from January to May. The figures represent year-on-year growth of 48 percent and 71 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, Jiangling, which sells Ford commercial vehicles, reported total sales of 17,057 vehicles in Mary and 94,208 vehicles over the first five months of the year.
