SUV production and sales rise more than 40%

SUV is really a big hit in Auto market now. Last month, SUV was the only passenger car model with sales growth. Its production and sales growth reached more than 40 per cent. Auto dealers generally agreed that SUV price war in the second half year will be intensified even further.

According to the latest statistics released by the CAAM, in July, the top ten SUV brands are Harve, Tiguan, Honda CRV, IX35,ESCAPE, Highlander, Q5, Qashqai, RAV4 and CS35, respectively selling 36,500, 16,600, 13,500, 13,300, 9,500, 9,000, 9,000, 8,700, 7,200 and 6,100 vehicles. The above ten brands sales account for 55.06% of the total SUV sales.

It is not hard to find that in addition to Harve and CS35, the top ten SUV brands are all joint venture brands. The joint venture brands’s comprehensive counterattack squeezes the viability of the self-owned brand again.

After the dramatical sales growth, SUV market may not be so inspiring in the second half year. First of all, the price war will be expanded. At present, the reporter learned from the auto market that the top ten SUV brands all have more than thousands of to tens of thousands of discounts, such as the Beijing Modern ix35 with maxim 40,000 yuan discount, New Santa Fe with 8,000 yuan discount, Dongfeng Nissan's new Qashqai with 6,000 yuan off, and so on. Dodge JCUV, Nissan X-trail, Toyota Highlander and Prado also gives 10,000 to 40,000 yuan discount. Luxury SUV even gives as much as 100,000 yuan discount. In July, Volkswagen Touareg gave the maximum 100,000 yuan discount, BMW X1 maximum 84,000 yuan discount, Mercedes - Benz GLK350 70,000 yuan discount and Audi Q7 maximum 50,000 yuan discount.

Apart from the price pressure, several new SUV brands will be launched in the market in the second half year. The Jeep new Cherokee, New Toyota RAV4, Harve H2 and Changan Mazda CX-5 will be successively on sale. A Shanghai Volkswagen dealer told reporters, “In addition to the pressure from new cars and competing products, the full release of factory capacity in the second half year will also lead to further declining of SUV prices.”
