FAW-VW's product and production breakthrough

FAW-VW, a joint venture between FAW and the German automaker VW, has just rolled out its 2,000,000th sedan, a landmark celebration was thus held. Also the launching of Magotan, a B-segment sedan and the mass production of its second sedan factory give the leading Chinese automaker more propulsion to take off.

During the first half of this year, FAW-VW manufactured 231,600 units of sedans, surging 45 percent from the previous year. The sales of FAW-VW's sedans reached 223,000 units, an increase of 25 percent comparing with last year. FAW-VW has been the best-selling companies from Apr. to Jun. so far this year.

Breakthrough in product makeup

While the production scale is reaching a ever-highest level, the makeup of FAW-VW's products is also on a changeover. The former line-up is of two main parts---the A-segment sedans, Sagita, Bora and Jetta are the most representative, and C-segment, like Audi A6.

But with the first B-segment sedan---Magotan grabbing the market, FAW-VW now is an all-rounder.

Magotan, an expected competitor to Toyota's Camry, was revamped from Passat on the VW's up-to-date PQ46 platform. VW Germany also joined hands with FAW-VW during the development process, but it's confirmed that the new model's 73 percent of parts and components are purchased locally.

On Jul the 13th, FAW-VW's landmark 2 millionth car hit the road.

In 1991, FAW-VW's first Jetta sedan was produced; by 2004, it released the 1,000,000th sedan; then from 2004 to 2007, FAW-VW churned out another one million cars. To finish the task that used to take for 13 years in a much shorter period of three year, FAW-VW made its break-through.

"FAW-VW is marching to meet the production target of one million units per year," said Zhu Yanfeng, President of China FAW Group Corporation, who was presented at celebration.
