China auto news of the week (Sept 3-7, 2007)

From Gasgoo.com| September 13 , 2007 15:59 BJT
While Shanghai Volkswagen holds on to its top position, most carmakers have experienced buoyant sales growth in August. China-made Toyota Crown's total sales have topped 100,000 vehicles last months.

In August, Hyundai is the only automaker whose records are going down; therefore the company has to cut its sales target this year, while making across-the-board price cuts to boost its car sales.

Hyundai cuts sales aim

From:Shanghai Daily
September 04 2007

HYUNDAI Motor Co, South Korea's largest car maker, has cut vehicle prices by as much as 13 percent in China and curtailed its sales target after introducing new models.

Beijing Hyundai Motor Co, the company's Chinese venture, cut prices for its Accent subcompact, Avante compact and Sonata sedans by seven percent to 13 percent from September 1, Seoul-based Hyundai Motor said yesterday.

Hyundai Motor slashed its annual sales target in the world's second-biggest auto market by 16 percent to 260,000 units, reported Bloomberg News.

Hyundai Motor is joining General Motors Corp, Ford Motor Co and other car makers in China in cutting vehicle prices.

At least 30 new or revamped models were introduced in China in the first half, forcing the auto makers to cut prices and ease financing requirements to maintain sales.

Hyundai Motor's sales in China dropped 18 percent to 128,587 in the first seven months of this year, compared with 157,135 a year earlier, according to the company's Website. It had previously aimed to sell 310,000 units this year in China.

It is now the 10th-largest car maker in China, slipping from fifth place last year. Hyundai Motor is building a second US$1-billion factory in China to double its capacity to 600,000 vehicles per year by 2008 after opening its first Beijing plant in 2002.

Dongfeng Nissan might meet its 300,000 target this year

Shanghai. September 6 (Gasgoo.com) – Due to the rebounding sales of SYLPHY and TEANA in August, Dongfeng Nissan has sold 172,000 vehicles in the first eight months.

This means the company may meet its 300,000 sales target for this year, according to a Chinese media report.

Dongfeng Nissan sold 128,000 vehicles in the first six months. The less-than-expected H1 sales volume raised doubts about company’s chances to meet its annual sales targets.

In August, Dongfeng Nissans sales rebounded to 24,200 vehicles, up 40 percent year on year, turning the company one of the top six automaker in China.

However, price-cuts in July has resulted a strong sales rebound in August, which has effectively raised the company’s chances to meet its annual target.
