Shanghai, November 6, (Gasgoo.com)- Korean automaker Hyundai Motor declared it has no plan to introduce alternative fuel vehicle to Chinese market in the near future, state media Xinhua news agency reported today.

The alternative fuel vehicle market in China is still in its early stage and the sales of new energy vehicle are very small, said Lee Il-Jang, president of Hyundai Motor Group (China) Ltd..

"The alternative fuel vehicles are much more expensive than conventional gas or diesel vehicles. The prices alone can turn a lot of consumers away, not to mention that Chinese government has not offered adequate incentives for both alternative fuel vehicles producers and consumers," Lee said.

"However, when China's new energy market enters maturity and Chinese government offers substantial policy incentives, we will introduce hybrid energy vehicles or fuel cell vehicles to Chinese market," Li continued.

Lee said that although Hyundai won't add alternative fuel vehicles to its line-up in Chinese market, the company has already taken measures to protect the environment through the whole process of R&D, production, logistics to aftermarket services and recycling.

Unlike Hyundai, Toyota has sold its popular hybrid vehicle Prius in China before it was locally produced in late 2005.

The hybrid edition of Lexus RX400h, LS600h have entered Chinese market too. Honda Civic hybrid will be imported into China later this month. However, the sale record of Toyota Prius in Chinese market is abysmally small. In the first nine months this year, Prius sold only 283 units in Chinese market.
