BAIC BJEV’s Trial make Battery-Replacing Pattern gain favor again?

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 11^st)– BAIC BJEV released its battery-replacing strategy across the industry on April 26th, which will be implemented from taxies across the nation. In the future, apart from taxis, renting cars and other operating vehicles, private vehicles will also benefit from the strategy. Recently, the first charging and replacing station was co-built by BAIC BJEV and Sinopec in Dabo Road, Beijing City.

Difficult to Spread Taxi Charging Pattern

Since taxis’ average exhaust emission is ten times of the private cars’, it has great significance to spread electrification of taxis. However, data shows that the spread has a slow process, and only 10% of 1,300,000 units electric vehicles in 2014-2015 are taxis.

The short ranges, long charging time and few charging stations make it difficult to charge for taxis. The solving solutions are trickle charging, replacing batteries and quick charging. Trickle charging has a high electricity consumption, will do harm to environment and is not suitable for taxis. Battery replacing mode has a low consumption and mature technologies, the most convenient method among them.

Updating Technologies make Battery Replacing Possible

Updating technologies have reduced 89% of stations’ occupying area, 50% of equipment’s volume, 60% of equipment’s weight, 50% of battery replacing time and increased successful replacing stability from 85% to 99.9%.

Some experts said battery replacing stations will promote resource utilization efficiency. In fact, BAIC BJEV is promoting an all-in-one station, giving more options for customers.

Battery Replacing Mode is not a Cure-All Medicine

According to some experts, battery replacing mode suits public operating vehicles most, while private vehicles will suffer problems such as high replacing costs, different standards, small market size and slow cost-recovery process. Considering demanders’ different features, a single mode cannot solve all problems and a complementary mode is practicable.
