Shanghai. January 24 (Gasgoo.com) –Three brand new or redesigned car models will be produced in its newly-finished second plant this year, the company announced yesterday.

New Elantra HDC, which was displayed at the Guangzhou Auto Show last November, will be the first model to be produced at the second plant and it will roll off assembly line in April, said Jin Fangxin, deputy general manager of Beijing Hyundai.

However, Hyundai will not halt the production of old version Elantra, Jin said. In addition, new Sonata Yuxiang will be produced in the second half of 2008 in the second plant and i30 will be produced by the end of 2008.

With the completion of a new $1billion second plant on the suburbs of Beijing, Hyundai's annual capacity in China will be doubled to 600,000 units. Volume production in the second plant is set to start in April or May this year.

Currently, Beijing Hyundai produces and sells five models: Sonata, Sonata Yuxiang, Elantra, Accent and Tucson.

In 2007, Beijing Hyundai sold 231,137 vehicles in Chinese market, which include 120,333 Elantra, 44,729 Tucson, 26,665 Accent, 25,528 Sonata and 799 Sonata Yuxiang vehicles.

The Korean automaker aims to sell 380,000 vehicles in Chinese market this year, about 60 percent increase from last year's 231,000 units.

The automaker said the completion of its second plant and the launch of new models in Chinese market will help the company to achieve its 2008 target.
