Shanghai. February 26 (Gasgoo.com) – In a recent economic conference, a senior Chongqing city official said the city government will give high priority to the third plant program to be built by Changan Ford Mazda, Chinese media reported yesterday.

"We’ve reserved a tract of land of 1,500 mu (99.9 hectare) for Changan Ford Mazda’s third plant,” said an official from the managing board of the Economic Development Zone in Chongqing. “Now is the time to put the land in good use.”

The new plant will give the joint venture additional 100,000 units capacity. The new capacity, in combination with its current 410,000 units capacity a year, will boost the automaker's capacity in China up to more than half a million units, the newspaper said.

Total investment of the third plant will amount to RMB 3 billion yuan ($419 million) and it will have a capacity of 200,000 vehicles, Wu Bing, Chairman of the Economic Commission of Chongqing Municipal Government said in a recent industrial and economic situation conference.

However, Xu Guozhen, deputy president of Ford China, declined to confirm the site of the third plant.

Currently, Changan Ford Mazda has one plant in Chongqing and another one in Nanjing. The Chongqing plant has capacity to produce 250,000 vehicles, including Focus, Mazda 3, Volvo S40, Mondeo and S-MAX.

The Nanjing plant has a capacity of 160,000 vehicles, where Mazda 2 and new Fiesta are being built.
