Geely presents FC-2, FC-3, BMBS at Beijing auto show
Shanghai, April 25 (Gasgoo.com) At the 2008 Beijing Auto Show, Geely unveiled at several new concept and production vehicles such as FC-2, FC-3, and its new braking system technology the BMBS.
The compact four-door code-named FC-3 is headed for production later this year, along with a hatchback variant code-named FC-2. The complete cars will roll off the line in early 2009. Geely intends to export both models to Europe in 2009 and may also send the sedan to North America.
Both the Geely FC-2 and FC-3 models will be powered by the CVVT engines of Geely's 4G engine series which are up to Euro 5 emissions specifications. FC-3 will be the larger saloon designed on the same platform as the old FC-1.
A larger sedan, code-named GC, is also under development. The GC appears to be about the size of the Honda Accord and also is aimed at export markets. Production is slated to begin in 2009.
The company says these cars are being designed to meet the latest safety and emissions standards in Europe and North America.
Geely also showed off its new technology -- the BMBS (Blowout Monitoring and Braking System) braking system that is designed to slow cars safely if a tire blows out by putting the car in control with the aid of the anti-lock braking system (ABS). The BMBS is "paramount for the safety of human life," the voice-over of Geely's promotional video presentation intoned. "It's a great gift for mankind given by the Geely Group."
Developed in China, the BMBS braking system was put to the test at 100 kph on a production model, the new Geely FC-2 / FC-3.
