Honda's April sales in China rise 13% to 38,374 cars

Honda Motor said on Monday it sold 13.05 percent more vehicles in mainland China in April than a year earlier, slightly outperforming 10.83 percent growth in the overall Chinese market.

Honda, Japan's second-biggest car maker, whose models include the Accord, Civic and Odyssey, sold 38,374 cars in China in April, compared with 33,944 a year earlier, it said in a statement.

Sales at its venture with Dongfeng Motor, based in the central Chinese province of Hubei, jumped 54.3 percent to 14,527 units in April, it said.

Guangzhou Honda, its joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co -- which is the parent of Hong Kong-listed Denway Motors -- sold 23,847 vehicles in April, down 2.8 percent from the year-ago level of 24,529.

From January to April, Honda sold 151,029 vehicles in the country, up 24.8 percent from the same period last year.
