FAW sales up 28.1% in the first five months

Shanghai, June 10 (Gasgoo.com) The number of vehicles sold by FAW increased by 28.1% year-on-year (y/y) to 739,183 units in the first five months of 2008, with sales of sedan, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, light commercial vehicles rising by 31.6%, 32.3% and 0.2% respectively, according to the latest figures released by FAW.

The sales have reached 42.7% of the planned whole year figures by FAW, up 2.5% from the same period of 2007. Sedan sales rose by 31.6% y/y to 581,061 units. Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles totaled 100,159 units, surging by 32.3% y/y. The number of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) only rose slightly by 0.2% y/y to 33,543 units.  

FAW-Toyota sold 165,398 units in the first five months. The positive momentum enjoyed by both Corolla and Vios indicates the extension and variety of FAW-Toyota’s production lineup. FAW-VW sold 232,322 units from January to May, up 30.4% y/y. Sagitar, Magotan and Audi A4 all maintained strong growth.

The number of vehicles sold by FAW Jiefang automotive(a subsidiary of FAW ) in the previous five months surged by 45.8% y/y to 88,276 units, higher than the industry growth rate of 38.8%. Having accomplished 67.9% of the whole-year plan, vehicles of FAW Jiefang took 20.4% of the market share, rising by 1% y/y.
