Beijing gives green light to BAIC BJEV autonomous driving road tests
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BAIC BJEV announced that the company has received Beijing's license to conduct road tests for its autonomous vehicle the LITE on April 26. Along with the Chinese EV (electric vehicle) startup NIO, BAIC BJEV has also been included in the first batch of automakers that obtained Beijing's road test license.
At Auto China 2018 in Beijing, BAIC BJEV unveiled its AI (artificial intelligence) vehicle system dubbed “Darwin System” on which the AI sedan EU5 based. Meanwhile, the autonomous model LITE was also showcased at the same time.
On April 12 in 2018, three government bodies, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ("MIIT"), issued the Norms on the Administration of Road Tests of Intelligent Connected Vehicles (for Trial Implementation) with effect from May 1, 2018. The Norms noted that relevant competent authorities of provincial and municipal governments shall select several typical sections of roads within their respective administrative region for the road tests of ICVs. It indicates that the development of ICV (intelligent-connected vehicle) in China has ushered in an all-new phase.
As early as December 2017, China's first guideline on road tests of autonomous vehicles was released by local authorities in Beijing, stipulating the way to get road test's qualification.
Reportedly, the automaker's tested autonomous vehicle the LITE, with many functions like automatic car-following, lane-keeping, automatic lane-changing, autonomous collision avoidance, traffic signal recognition and automatic parking, is available with various daily life scenarios.
