XPENG Motors, Desay SV team to develop L3 autonomous driving system

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 23, Chinese EV startup XPENG Motors inked a strategic agreement with Desay SV Automotive (Desay SV), a Huizhou-based Chinese automotive electronics provider, to jointly develop L3 autonomous driving system.

At the same time, XPENG Motor became the first OEM in China who placed an order for the partner's latest autonomous driving controller. Carrying newly-launched high-performance AI chips, the controller boasts globally-advanced computing and processing capabilities, which can process and integrate the data from various sensors like vehicular radars, cameras, LiDAR as well as ultrasonic radars, etc. Reportedly, the L3 autonomous driving system that co-developed by both companies will provide diverse smart functions, such as low-speed valet parking, medium-speed traffic jam pilot and high-speed chauffeur services.

XPENG Motors is ambitious to mass produce highly intelligent internet cars with six-dimensional sensing capability, according to He Xiaopeng, chairman of XPENG Motors. He added that, both companies have confidence in realizing the mass production of L3 autonomous driving system by 2020.

With sales and R&D center in Huizhou, Guangdong province, Desay SV has also set up other R&D centers and branches in Nanjing, Chengdu, Singapore, Europe and Japan. Focusing on the development and manufacturing of in-vehicle infotainment system, climate control, driver information display system, automotive display module/system, body control module and advanced driver assistance system, the company has built partnerships with many well-known automakers at home and abroad.

XPENG Motors began the presale of its first production vehicle model, the G3, in April, which is expected to go on sale this year. The G3, a highly-intelligent internet SUV model, features functions like automatic parking without human's intervention and full-scenario parking space recognition and memorization driven by key and voice.
