Qiantu Motor discloses car planning, to cover more segments in addition to roadster
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China-based EV startup Qiantu Motor will roll out more new models based on its three major vehicle platforms, following the Qiantu K50, the automaker's EV roadster which officially hit the market on August 8, according to the startup's chairman Lu Qun.
Qiantu Motor currently has three major vehicle platforms. The mid-full size PV platform manufacturing the Qiantu Concept 1 and the small-sized PV platform boasting the K2 Concept have been scheduled to produce 3 to 5 new models respectively. The high-performance sport car platform on which the K50 based is also on course making other models. Lu Qun said that the company's products will gradually penetrate into various segments with prices widely ranging from over RMB 10 thousand to roughly RMB 500 thousand.
Following the K50, the K20 is the next that will be put into mass production. Positioned as a small-sized two-door roadster, the K20 Concept made its debut at the 2018 Auto China, boasting uniqueness in the body proportion and exterior design. Going forward, the mass-produced model of the K20 will be lightened by using aluminium alloy chassis, while the auto-body panel will be made up of the composite materials cheaper than carbon fiber to control the costs.
The Qiantu Concept 1, which was unveiled at the 2018 Auto China as well, is the first model based on the startup's mid-full size PV platform. It could be speculated that the mass-produced model of the Concept 1 will be positioned as a mid-to-large pure electric model, similar to the Tesla Model S.
