Shanghai becomes China’s first city promoting over 200,000 NEVs

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Shanghai has already promoted 201,500 new energy vehicles (NEV) by the end of September 10, accounting for 10% of overall NEV promotion volume in China, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization (SHEITC) recently announced.

Relevant data source said that China has deployed around 2.4 million NEVs by the end of August, among which 8.4% of nationwide NEVs were coming from Shanghai.

The SHEITC said a total of 33,418 NEVs were newly deployed in Shanghai from January to August, among which 72% of cars were delivered to private buyers, hitting a new high in history. Consumers are given more options as most of Chinese automakers start to develop NEVs under the proceeding NEV credit policies. For instance, there were only around 60 NEV models for sale from 2013 to 2016. However, this number has jumped to over 150 in September, 2018.

NEVs are mainly popularized around the so-called first-tier and second-tier cities in China. The top 10 cities by annual NEV promotion volume in 2017 were Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Qingdao, Guangzhou, Changsha, Zhengzhou and Chengdu. The total NEV deployment volume for the top 10 cities by the end of 2017 took up 47.4% of the nationwide volume.

By the end of August, Shanghai has built 63,620 public-use charging piles, 33,100 charging piles for specific uses and 115,632 private charging piles, which totaled a number close to that of the NEV deployed in the city.
