Mazda’s China sales from Jan. to Feb. plunge 36.4% year on year
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Japanese automaker Mazda sold 34,388 vehicles in China during the first two months of the year, posting an evident year-on-year drop of 36.4%, Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd. announced on March 5.
FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda saw their Jan.-Feb. retail sales tumbled 44.0% and 31.3% respectively from a year ago to 12,053 units and 22,335 units.
In February, Mazda's retail sales in China plunged 42.5% over a year ago to 11,544 units, representing year-on-year drop for the tenth month in a row. Both joint ventures came across year-on-year negative growth. FAW Mazda handed over 5,037 vehicles with a steep decline of 37.5% and Changan Mazda witnessed its Feb. retail sales sharply dwindle 45.9% to 6,507 units.
Nobuhiko Watabe, chairman of Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd. stated that vehicles were mainly delivered in late February due to the Spring Festival, while the sales momentum had not instantly revived after the holiday, so the Feb. resultant sales showed a severe downturn. The auto market climate hardship will still continue after March, thus Mazda will strength the brand promotion and faithfully convey its brand trends and product advantages to Chinese consumers to improve the sales performance in this country.
