Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The spread of COVID-19 epidemic not only made the Auto China 2020, one of the splendid motor shows in the world, delayed, but also has disrupted OEM's new product roll-out schedule.

The BYD Han, the long-anticipated newcomer to BYD's “Dynasty” lineup, is likely to hit the market in the third quarter, Zhang Changjiang, president of BYD sales company revealed via his Sina Weibo account. Reportedly, the supposed-to-be launching date may be in this year's June.

In last November, BYD announced the badge of an all-new model series dubbed “Han”, joining the string of “Dynasty” matrix that had already contained “Qin”, “Tang”, “Song” and “Yuan”.

The simplified Chinese character “Han” on the badge is written in the elegant “small seal” script that fostered the sharing of culture and literature from the Qin to the end of Western Han Dynasty. The format integrating both traditional and modern elements embodies BYD’s wish to pass on achievements from old days and create a better future with the “Han” as a new outset.

The automaker laid bare the photo of the Han EV/DM in Jan. via its WeChat account. Staying true to the iconic “Dragon Face” design language, the new vehicle features a coupe-shaped body with four doors. As to the side profile, the sleek character lines create an image of constant motion even in standstill. Besides, the taillight cluster stretches across the entire tailgate and the chrome-plate trim accentuate the car's width.

According to the records exposed by the MIIT, the Han EV will be offered in two power forms. The electric motor, which merely exists at the front axle, is good for up to 163kW and 330N·m. The other version features electric motors at both the front and rear axles with the rear one delivering up to 200kW and 350N·m.

Besides, the drive package of the Han DM combines a 141kW 2.0L engine and an electric motor that pumps 180kW and 330 N·m of peak torque.

Another noteworthy bright spot is that the Han will be the first that carries the “blade battery”, BYD's new-generation lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery to be mass produced in 2020, BYD’s chairman Wang Chuanfu said at the China EV 100 Forum 2020. The novel battery offers longer range thanks to the higher utilization of the inner battery pack space that is free from cross and longitudinal beams (Photo source: BYD's WeChat account).
