SAIC Motor sees Jan.-Apr. 2021 sales zoom up 42.44% YoY
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Motor said its complete vehicle sales reached 419,519 units in April 2021, inching up 0.47% compared to the same period in 2020. In the Jan.-Apr. period of the year, the Shanghai-based auto giant sold 1,561,929 vehicles in total, recording a year-on-year surge of 42.44%.
In April, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) not only outperformed the other subsidiaries in terms of monthly sales volume, but also achieved a double-digit sales growth. The company announced that the sales of the Wuling Journey (named “Zhengtu” in Chinese) pickup amounted to 6,385 units last month, rising 6% over the previous month. Notably, SGMW was also the No.1 subsidiary by year-to-date sales.
Both SAIC Volkswagen and SAIC-GM logged decrease in April sales. In April, SAIC Volkswagen outsold SAIC-GM by 27,681 units, while it had lagged behind the Sion-U.S. joint venture for six straight months as of March 2021.

At the Auto Shanghai 2021, SAIC Volkswagen exhibited two all-new models under Volkswagen brand, namely the ID.6 X and the all-new Teramont. The long-anticipated SAIC Audi brand also made its first appearance at the motor show by displaying the all-new Audi A7L.
SAIC Motor PV saw its sales jump 30.33% from the previous year to 54,100 units in April. Its Jan.-Apr. sales also soared 41.48% to 199,355 units.

At the Auto Shanghai, the SAIC Motor's self-owned PV subsidiary grabbed the attention of many viewers by showcasing a number of fire new models for all three brands. To be specific, Roewe revealed the Jing (literally translating as whale), the new RX5 PLUS and the iMAX 8 four-seater version; MG showcased its bold new Cyberster sports car concept; R Auto offered the public the first glimpse of the mass-production-ready ES33, which is set to take on the models like the Geely's ZEEKR 001.
Moreover, SAIC Motor reported an April sales volume of 42,900 units for its overseas markets, a hike of 62.6% year over year. The auto giant also sold roughly 50,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs) last month, which were 432.2% more than that of the year-ago period.
