GAC Group’s Jan.-May sales grow 6.15% from same period in 2019
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In May 2021, GAC Group's new vehicle sales amounted to 176,800 units, rising 6.75% from a year ago, while also growing 11.1% compared to the same period in 2019.
During the first five months of the year, the Guangzhou-based auto giant sold a total of 860,456 vehicles, representing a 34.87% jump over the previous year, while posting a 6.15% growth from the Jan.-May period in 2019.

The group said its new energy passenger vehicle (NEPV) sales in May jumped 61.9% year over year to 10,274 units, 8,444 units of which were from GAC's self-owned brands. Year-to-date NEPV sales also soared 87.5% to 41,738 units.
Notably, GAC Aion, GAC Group's wholly-owned subsidiary dedicated to NEV business, delivered 10,395 new vehicles in May, seeing its monthly deliveries exceed 10,000 units for the first time. Meanwhile, the NEV maker’s May wholesales shot up 105% year over year to 8,416 units.
GAC Aion announced on May 17 the strategic cooperation with DiDi Autonomous Driving as both parties plan to jointly develop a fire new driverless new energy vehicle (NEV) model available for scale production.

GAC Motor, the group's self-owned PV subsidiary, witnessed its May wholesales jump 15.49% to 26,029 units, achieving year-on-year increase for the eleventh consecutive month. Of those, 11,312 units were MPVs, a robust leap of 106% year over year, and the sales of the GS3 POWER SUV zoomed up 157% to 4,462 units.
Both GAC Honda and GAC Toyota recorded year-on-year growth in May sales. HEV models accounted for 14.7% of GAC Honda’s May sales, while took up 18.8% of GAC Toyota's sales volume.
