Car and City: BYD registers most NEVs in Beijing in Apr.

Beijing (Gasgoo)- In April 2022, Tesla came down from the pedestal of new energy vehicle (NEV) registrations in Beijing, and BYD swooped in, according to data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI). 

Beijing’s China-made passenger vehicle registrations saw an overall downturn from a month ago. In the fourth month of 2022, a total of 32,172 passenger vehicles were registered in the capital of China, dropping 22.96% from March.

Among the top ten most registered brands in the month, three were Chinese brands. Aside from the usual names like BYD (2,433 vehicles registered) and BAIC Group’s BEIJING (2,117 vehicles registered), GAC Group’s Trumpchi surprisingly made the cut at the ninth place with 1,259 registrations. Trumpchi’s addition bumped the constant player, Audi, out of the top ten list in April.  

In the past month, BEIJING’s EU5 model won first place with 1,678 vehicles registered. The other China-branded model that made the list was BYD’s Song PLUS EV. The German luxury brand, Mercedes-Benz took up three slots in the list, the GLC (586 registrations), the E-Class (408 registrations), and the C-Class (397 registrations). 

As to the new energy vehicle market, Beijing registered 8,757 NEVs in April, accounting for 27.22% of the total registrations in the month. Battery-electric vehicles are still the most favorable in Beijing, with 7,879 vehicles registered. 

Brand-wise, in April, seven out of ten of the most popular NEV brands in Beijing were China-branded, with BYD and BEIJING leading the way. Geely’s premium NEV brand ZEEKR won the seventh place, with 202 vehicles registered, surpassing the frequent winner, Tesla, by 49 vehicles. In the meantime, HOZON Auto’s NETA brand also entered the list, with 152 registrations. 

To further demonstrate, six out of the ten most registered NEV models in Beijing were from BYD. Volkswagen’s ID.4 CROZZ ranked eighth place with 259 vehicles registered. Notably, the EU5 registrations were all made under business titles. NIO’S ES6 was the next in line, with 177 vehicles registered.
