The Chongqing-based auto group expects to allocate RMB6.291 billion ($923 million) into the factory retrofit and green upgrade projects. Upon completion, Changan Automobile shall have a comprehensive new energy vehicle production capacity of roughly 280,000 vehicles per year by 2024.
Once the upgrade is finished, Changan Automobile will put three new electric models into production in the Yubei factory, including two mid-to-large size battery-electric models and one compact pure-electric model. The project is currently under administrative review.
The Yubei factory is one of Changan Automobile’s early factories with a design annual production capacity of 280,000 vehicles. The factory is responsible for manufacturing the EADO lineup, the CS35, and others.
The refit and upgrade project indicates that the Yubei factory will be temporarily closed, and its production capacity will also be scratched.
Aside from the expansion of battery-electric vehicle production capacity, Changan Automobile’s hybrid power upgrade project is also underway. On July 9th, the automaker disclosed that it has set up an account in Industrial and Commercial Bank of China to solicit funds for its new-generation power-saving product transformation and upgrade project. The deposit should be around RMB1.605 billion ($238.54 million).
