Beijing popularizes NEVs with various measures

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Beijing maintains the largest industry scale and fastest growth momentum in NEV sector nationwide. Cumulatively, Beijing has popularized 170,000 pure electric vehicles as of now. In 2016, total production value of pure electric vehicles reached over RMB 30 billion (about $4.6 billion). From now on, Beijing will expand the application scale of NEVs, according to Xu Qiang, Director of Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission.

Considering that China hasn't shaped a sound NEV coordinate development mechanism yet and the NEV policies remain to be more specific, Beijing carried out a guidance to lead the development of intelligent NEVs, said Xu Qiang. According to the guidance, by 2020, the NEV technologies should be largely improved. The leadership and competitiveness of the NEVs should gain profound improvement. The core parts technology should make breakthroughs. The innovation system of new energy intelligent vehicles should be shaped. The industrialization should achieve great improvement. Specialization and centralization should be improved remarkably and a batch of competitive core companies should be established. 

In terms of strengthening the innovation capability, Beijing will integrate all kinds of innovative resources to build national NEV technological innovation centers and national power battery innovation centers, focus on the improvement of vehicle integration innovation capability and give the top priority to the core technologies of key parts, such as power batteries, fuel cells and stacks with high power density and high durability.

In terms of establishing industrial system for new energy intelligent vehicles, Beijing will master the intelligent connected driving technology with artificial intelligence. What's more, it will accelerate the establishment of charging infrastructure, encourage innovation and industrialization of wireless charging, intelligent charging and high-power charging technologies, and support the operation of hydrogen refueling stations.

Beijing also boosts the development of industrial agglomeration for intelligent NEVs, promoting Shunyi District and Beijing Economic-Technological development Area to be the prioritized places to bear achievement of NEVs and the places which attract excellent companies from home and abroad to develop at Beijing.

In addition, Beijing will accelerate the popularity and application of NEVs. It vigorously promotes the application of NEVs in urban public transportation and puts forward encouragement policies to stimulate private car owners to buy NEVs. Meanwhile, Beijing will proactively boost the electrification of mobility for the 2022 Winter Olympics and the 2022 Winter Paralympics, and will also promote the application of hydrogen manufacturing and refueling technology in relevant areas of the 2022 Winter Olympics and the 2022 Winter Paralympics.
