BYD’s monthly auto sales exceed 170,000 units for first time

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD Company Limited ("BYD") saw its monthly auto sales hit another record high of 174,915 units in August 2022, zooming up 155.23% year on year, while also growing 7.62% month on month, the company announced on Friday.

Notably, it was the first time for BYD to record a monthly auto sales volume of over 170,000 units.

New energy vehicles (NEVs) accounted for 100% of BYD's total Aug. sales. Compared to the same span in 2021, BYD's NEV sales in Aug. soared 184.84%. The blooming growth was largely attributed to the 187.53 % year-on-year surge in new energy passenger vehicle ("NEPV") sales, which stood at 173,977 units. Meanwhile, the new energy commercial vehicle segment also posted a 4.11% upward movement from a year earlier.

For the first eight months of 2022, BYD sold 983,844 vehicles in total, representing a 164.03% year-on-year spike. Its year-to-date NEV sales reached 978,795 units, soaring 267.31% from the previous year.

Regarding sales of its main vehicle models, the Han family got a sales volume of 26,003 units in Aug. Notably, the sales of the BYD Han DM rocketed 351.6% from the year-ago period. The Tang, Song, Qin, and Yuan series saw their monthly sales reach 10,815 units, 42,500 units, 39,512 units, and 18,265 units last month, respectively.

The automaker also sold 8,725 Destroyer 05 ("Quzhujian 05") sedans last month, which jumped 15.6% from the previous month. Meanwhile, the sales of the Dolphin all-electric car came in at 23,469 units, climbing 11.7 % from a month ago.

BYD is accelerating its PV business expansion in overseas markets. The company has claimed its offensive into the PV markets of Japan, Germany, Sweden, Thailand, and Denmark this year.
