Car and City: August 2021 registrations of NIO models

For the month of August 2021, the insurance registrations of NIO's three mass-produced models totaled 6,476 units, leaping 64.8% year on year, while dipping 19.6% month on month, according to the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC).

In terms of August registrations of locally-made new energy vehicles, NIO ranked 11th among auto brands in China, sliding two spots compared to July.

For the first eight months of 2021, NIO's insurance volume amounted to 55,631 units, soaring 158.1% over the year-ago period.

Among NIO's three models, the ES8 was the only one recording month-on-month growth in Aug. registrations. Of the 1,800 ES8s registered last month, 1,369 units were contributed by private users.

Shanghai topped the other cities in China with 246 ES8 SUVs registered there last month. A total of five cities, namely, Beijing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, recorded ES8 registrations between 100 units and 200 units.

The registrations of the ES6 in August tumbled 25.4% month over month. As the best-selling product of NIO, the ES6 failed to enter the top 20 list of China's locally-made NEV models by Aug. registrations.

Last month, there were 549 ES6s registered in Shanghai, versus 212 units reported by the runner-up city Beijing. The five cities, which logged the ES6 registrations between 100 and 200 units, were Suzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Guangzhou.

The EC6's monthly registrations reached 1,970 units in August, slumping 25.8% compared to July and hitting the lowest level since last November.

Shanghai was still credited the No.1 city in terms of the EC6 registrations. Nine of the top 10 cities by the EC6 insurance volume were the same as that of the ES6.
