Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, along with other relevant departments, jointly issued the "Opinions on Accelerating the Innovation and Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry in Guangdong" (referred to as the "Opinions" below).

The "Opinions" lay out a roadmap to elevate the scale of the hydrogen energy industry by 2025, with notable achievements in the construction of demonstration city clusters for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). The province’s aim is to promote the adoption of over 10,000 fuel cell vehicles, an annual hydrogen supply capacity exceeding 100,000 tonnes, and the establishment of more than 200 hydrogen refueling stations by that year.

By 2027, Guangdong province aspires to see its hydrogen energy industry reach 300 billion yuan in scale, with the entire hydrogen "production, storage, transportation, and utilization" industrial chain achieving a leading level in China. It aims to significantly advance hydrogen's share in various sectors, such as energy and energy storage. The ultimate goal is to create a hydrogen energy industry that is globally competitive and a hub for technological innovation.

To realize these objectives, the Opinions emphasize accelerating the development of hydrogen refueling stations. This involves comprehensive planning and construction of hydrogen infrastructures, forward-looking development of hydrogen facilities, and the formulation of management policies to streamline station construction procedures. Existing gas stations will be encouraged to retrofit with hydrogen refueling equipment, and new fueling stations should incorporate hydrogen facilities in their blueprints, promoting the establishment of comprehensive energy supply stations offering both oil and hydrogen.

The Opinions also highlight plans to connect with the national hydrogen highway development, create hydrogen corridors, and prioritize the construction of hydrogen stations along key routes in the Pearl River Delta. Highways with the necessary conditions for hydrogen infrastructure construction should ideally integrate such facilities during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period to support long-distance transportation for fuel cell commercial vehicles within the province. The "Opinions" promote the construction of hydrogen stations in regions rich in application scenarios, including hydrogen energy industrial parks, steel plants, and port terminals.
